Somebody say yay! There’s going to be a new Instagram update! Yes, the long awaited mute button is on it’s way and its time to say goodbye to posts that pop up on our timelines delaying us from viewing the things we really like. This feature is long overdue. While you can always unfollow someone, that often isn’t a realistic option because you can’t unfollow a close relative just because they post 12 times a day, for instance, even if they really deserve it
With this new feature, you’ll be able to choose to remove someone’s posts, or both their posts and their stories, from appearing on your Instagram’s main screen. You’ll still be able to view a muted person’s profile, you can unmute them any time you want, and the person won’t be told that they’ve been muted. So yes, this update is great and it’s going to be out as a test to some accounts in a couple of weeks.
Although this is great for personal accounts, life just got a little tougher for business profiles on Instagram especially with all the struggle and tussle of trying to figure out Instagram’s algorithm. Business profiles have one more thing to worry about with this new feature, especially if your strategy has always been to flood pictures of your products daily to remind your audience about you. Businesses with that strategy need to find a new tactic because the more people mute you, the lower your engagement and the lower your chances of being seen on the explore page, friends feed etc.
This means if plenty of your target audience don’t see you, it affects your chances of making money. So before you all rejoice about the new feature, think really hard about this because promotion just got tougher! Even though the feature is part of a larger effort to make it easier for users to personalize their feeds based on what they want to see
